With the January transfer window being fingertips away , I would like Arsenal to sign a defender and a winger. So here’s a list of 5 players that I think Arsenal should target in order to win the Europa League and sustain a spot in the Premier League top 4.
- Pepe
After having his contract terminated by mutual consent at Besiktas, Arsenal should attempt to get the Signature of the former Real Madrid man. At 35 years of age, Pepe would bring some experience into the back line and help Arsenal during their defensive crisis at the moment. Being a free agent, Arsenal could offer Pepe a 6 month contact until the end of the season, and then in the summer sign a world class defender. Pepe has won the Champions League three times with Real Madrid and won the 2016 Euros with Portugal, bringing in a winning mentality at the club with his past achievements.
2. Malcom
After joining Barcelona in the summer, Malcolm hasn’t been receiving the game time that he would have expected. So far this season he’s only played 7 games in la liga and Champions league , starting only once in those games. Last season in Bordeaux he played 35 games, getting 12 goals and 7 assist to his tally. Taking Malcom on loan until the rest of the season would benefit both parties as he would get more game time to build his confidence. He would bring width and flair to Arsenal which is something they’re lacking. This season Arsenal have been using wing backs Kolasinac and Bellerin for attack on the wings, but they need an actual attacker. On loan, they can use him for the rest of the season and then in the summer spend big on a winger.
3. Daniel Rugani
The young Italian defender plays for Juventus but has rarely gotten any playing time. With Juventus being stacked in their defense, Rugani is down in the pecking order only playing 3 matches in the league this season. Loaning him in until the end of the season would allow him to get more playtime and help the Arsenal back line. He could then return next season and be in contention to start for Juventus. Arsenal could also loan with an obligation to buy. If he fits in well in the defense, he would avoid the time to fit in for next season as he would have already embedded into the Premier League.
4. Miguel Almiron
The Paraguayan player for Atlanta United has been linked to Arsenal this season. Almiron won the MLS cup with Atlanta United and with their title triumph, he might want to go overseas to start a new chapter in his career. Almiron had impressed well, being a fan favorite at Atlanta United after scoring 12 goals and getting 11 assists. If Almiron’s move turns out succesful, the MLS will begin to earn some more credibility in producing players. With Columbus Crew’s goalkeeper Zack Steffan going to Man City next season, the MLS might become more relevant to the whole footballing world.
5. Kalidou Koulibally (Dream Signing)
Koulibaly has been ranked amongst one of the best central defenders in the world. He’s arguably the best defender in Seria A with only Chiellini being in contention with him. Standing at 6ft 5 in, hes a commanding defender that would slot in into any team in the world. Last January, Liverpool signed Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton who was an in demand defender everyone wanted. His presence has been made with Liverpool getting to the Champions League Final last season, and now currently 1st in the league, conceding only an astonishing 7 goals this season. Koulibaly is in the same level as Van Dijk and could produce the same results at Arsenal. Although his price tag is 100 million Euros, if the Arsenal board really want to get back into the Champions League and challenge for the Premier League, then the solution is right there.
