The Charlotte Hornets get their first win of the season, handing Eastern Conference favorites Brooklyn Nets their first loss. Gordon Hayward led the Hornets in their surprise victory, getting 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists, proving to his doubters as to why he deserves the $30 million a year contract he was given.
Terry Rozier had another dominant performance with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists with his highlight of the match dunking on Kevin Durant on a counter. Rozier is a player who I believe that went under the radar last season averaging 18 points per game, and although it’s early on the season he’s already scoring more than his average last season. Many fans are calling for Lamelo Ball to start over Rozier but Coach James Borrego decision to stick with Rozier is proving to be the right choice.
The young trio of Miles Bridges, PJ Washington, and Devonte Graham are showing more signs of improvement, with the three young stars having more of an impact in the games. Some positive signs for the future for the Queen City for once this trio and Lamelo Ball all enter their prime and manage to stay, giving a bright future for the franchise.
Although the Brooklyn Nets may have lost, they’re definitely still the favorites to win the Eastern Conference. The dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving nearly carried their side to victory combining to get 54 points. Durant and Irving are continuing their hot form since the start with their blowout against the Warriors, but the team has taken a step back with Spencer Dinwiddie being ruled out for the rest of the season with a slightly torn ACL injury. Even with his absence, you can’t rule out the dangerous threat Durant and Irving bring to the table, and they will certainly continue to dominate more teams this season.
